The author, dancing on a literal volcano
As I finish up an excellent (though whirlwind) jaunt to Collio, my latest piece for Napa Valley Wine Academy has been published, focused (somewhat ironically, considering it’s at the opposite end of Italy from where I’ve just visited) on the wines and producers of Sicily’s Etna.
The wine cognoscenti love to wax philosophically about “volcanic” wines, and Etna can surely be considered the epicenter (pun intended) of that fashionable movement.
I don’t know if I’ve cracked the code of explaining what’s behind the specialness of volcanic wine in this article—well, I am actually sure that I haven’t done that—but I never turn down a press invite to Sicily, and the state of Etna’s wine scene is absolutely fascinating at the moment.
